Ode to the Fleeting
Drawings from text, audio and observation reflect transience as a natural and perpetual condition in nature, mindful that man's impact tips transience into loss. There is no guarantee of existence. By saying this out loud we acknowledge our position and find resolve and urgency to champion beautiful Earth.
An exhibition in the SALT Festival of the Sea

A number of drawings are informed by the writings of the climate scientist Dr. Kate Marvel, the research of Daniel Hudon, a conversation between Daniel Pauly and George Monbiot, the campaign of the endurance swimmer Lewis Pugh and the deeply sad, measured and authoritative account of the 'The Unnatural History of the Sea' by Dr. Callum Roberts.

Shifting Baseline
The concept used by Marine Biologist Daniel Pauly to explain our generational blindness to environmental destruction. We accept that 'our time' is the norm (our baseline). We make no comparisons. This drawing speaks of abundance and bio complexity that thins to scarcity and bio poverty. For more information Shifting Baseline Syndrome is accessibly illustrated in a conversation between Daniel Pauly and George Monbiot on 14/8/17 on Oceania.org. Note, also, comments from the endurance swimmer Lewis Pugh on the scarcity of life in the English Channel as he swam from Lands End to Dover raising awareness of the health and future of the Oceans this summer 2018.
